Changi Airport Terminal 3

These few photos are my best personal shot of Changi Airport Terminal 3 where it shows the very spacious halls of the airport. I like these photos the best.
Above photo is the departure hall.

Another section of the departure hall where the check in counters are.

Above photo is also another part of the departure hall.

From the departure hall, we can view into the transit hall. This is the main transit hall where performance, etc are held.

I have now come to an end of my posting of Changi Airport Terminal 3 open house. I would only post future photos of T3 when it is fully operational and when all the shops and eateries are open. Hope you enjoy my virtual tour of Changi Airport Terminal 3 and look out for its official opening on 9th January 2008.

Changi Airport Terminal 3 - Basement

This is the basement of Changi Airport Terminal 3. The basement consists of many shops and eateries too. And I had repeated many times that T3 is like a big shopping mall....lol. And I am coming quite close to finish posting all the T3 open house photos.

Changi Airport Terminal 3 - Sky Train

This new inter-terminal skytrain system comprises 16 train cars, each with a capacity of 97 passengers. It will ensure that you get to the other terminals (T1 and T2) in no time. There is also a shuttle service to transport you to the further end of the 'A' gates. The previous posting of photos belong only to 'B' gates as 'A' gates are closed for renovations. That is how big T3 is. (Source: T3 open house guide)

Hopefully I get to go T3 when I next travel and post more photo of 'A' gates.

The building under construction on the right of the above photo is the yet to be open 4 star Airport Hotel, the 9 storey Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Changi Airport Terminal 3 - Glass Lift

The extensive use of glass in Changi Airport terminal 3 allows passengers and visitors to see both the airside and landside shopping and dining areas. Even the lifts are not spared, they are glass walled too and very spacious.

Changi Airport Terminal 3 - Viewing gallery

I am really impressed about the whole of Changi Airport Terminal 3 but the viewing gallery was badly designed that draws a lot of complaints.

There were external structures that were blocking the views of visitors trying to look at the aeroplanes taking off and landing. But the authorities had since removed part of the external structures after much complaints. I guess the external structures could have meant for blocking the sunlight.

Changi Airport Terminal 3 - Green Wall

This is the much talked about green wall. It is a five storey high and 300 m wide vertical garden featuring 25 species of climbing plants which can be view from both the departure and arrival halls. This is fantastic and very beautiful.

This photo is taken from the arrival hall where the luggage belts are. So the next time you visit Singapore, do remember to look at the green wall as you wait to collect your luggages.

The plants are watered automatically. (Those white vapours you see in the below photo are actually water being pump out of sprinklers.)

I spotted flowers growing from the plants. This is cool.

Closer view of the green wall.

This photo is taken from the departure hall. No concrete wall in here, most of the walls are glass panel walls. Very impressive.

Sorry, my lens could not take the whole 300 m wide green wall, this is as wide as I can take.....lol

Changi Airport Terminal 3 -Sandstone Art Wall

At the base of the Green Wall (photo will be posted later), is a 300 m wide hand-sculpted backdrop carved with tropical flora and fauna and dolphins, and with multi-language welcome messages. Spot your hometown greeting! (Source: T3 Open House Guide)

Changi Airport Terminal 3 Open House Tour

More gate holdrooms over this end..........wow T3 is definitely very big.

Walk on the travellators to B5-B10 and it take only 9 mins.....hmmmm this shows how big terminal 3 is. I was so tired that day when I walked around Changi Airport terminal 3 and you have yet to see the basement. Changi Airport Terminal 3 is just like a huge shopping mall.....
Transit passengers can take the sky trains to T1 and T2.

The huge immigration hall for arriving passengers, just look at how shiny the floor is. Hmmm, I will wear pants instead of skirts when I walked through the hall....lol

Arriving passengers can view their friends/family members above them through the glass panels. (Majority of Changi Airport Terminal 3 are glass-walled, so you can see all around you....this is cool and I like it and very impressed.)

At the automated lanes, the card holder inserts his/her Access Card into a card reader and places his/her right thumb on the fingerprint scanner for verification. The automated gate will open for the holder to exit once the system authenticates the holder's fingerprint.

Changi Airport Terminal 3 Open House Tour-Butterfly Garden

There will be a butterfly themed garden in Changi Airport Terminal 3. It is still under construction when we visited. From the picture plans, we could see there will be a nice waterfall in the garden. I think it would look beautiful once it is completed.

Changi Airport Terminal 3 Open House Tour (T3 Gate Holdrooms)

Travellers coming to Singapore are spoilt with choices. The airport had free movies, transit hotel, hairdresser, shower, gym, lounge, shops, restaurants, etc

T3 Gate Holdrooms are different from T1 and T2.

T3 common gate holdrooms come with A380 ready gates, each with a third aerobridge arm to facilitate the boarding and disembarking of passengers from the jumbo aircrafts upper and lower cabins. Another new feature of T3 are paired gate holdrooms with mezzanine levels in some of them.

This is interesting, our tour guide told us that these are very expensive chairs. The below photo shows the chair that costs $850, so most of us sat on these chairs to feel the expensive chair.... lol

But when the guide told us that the below photo's chair cost $1,200 each, we all changed position to sit on the more expensive chairs.....lol (This is so funny and we all burst into laughter although we are some school kids.)

Changi Airport Terminal 3 opening 9th January 2008

We were among the thousand of Singaporeans to visit the yet to be open Changi Airport Terminal 3. It is scheduled to open on 9th January 2008. Terminal 3 is set to further enhance Changi Airport's Status as the leading air hub in the region.

This is our tour guide for the new terminal 3 open house tour. Was told by him that terminal 3 was planned way back in 1970.

Our tour guide was asking everyone of us to look up above us.

These are what we saw....butterfly shaped reflectors. They are computer controlled to allow optimum amount of diffused sunlight to stream down through 919 skylights so as to make us of natural light instead of using electrical lights. (Not a good photo cause I forgot to put on auto flash for my camera but the rest of the photos are okay even without flash light as the terminal 3 halls are quite bright with all the natural lights).

Above the departure hall, are many nice restaurants and some shops.

Workers doing renovation works in the Transit Area.

This is the departure transit mall where there is a waterfall display. Many renovations are still being carried out in here. Once completed, this will be the place where performance and events will be held. From here, we can view friends/family members up above in the departure hall and wave to them.

Many shops are still not open and many renovations are still being carried out. I noticed many of my favourite brand of shops in here. Geez, I think I will be shopping even before I board a plane to travel......lol

From the transit area, we can view the arrival of aeroplanes. (Noticed that my camera is not auto-flash, which resulted in the darkness of the photo.)
